When should you buy a nursing bra?

Many women wonder: When is the right time to buy a nursing bra?

  • Around week 30–32 of pregnancy is ideal. By then, most of your body changes have taken place and you’re close to your final size.
  • Don’t buy too early – in the first months your breast and band size can increase rapidly.
  • Make sure the bra feels comfortable on the widest hook setting. After birth, you can tighten it as your ribcage returns to its original size.

How does your size change during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

Your bra size can change quite a lot:

  • Underbust measurement (band size): increases by 5–10 cm on average.
  • Bust measurement (cup size): increases by 6–12 cm (usually 1–2 cup sizes).
  • After birth: during engorgement, your bust can temporarily grow by another 2–4 cm.

In total, your bra size can fluctuate by 10–15 cm between early pregnancy and breastfeeding.

How to measure your nursing bra size?

  1. Measure under your bust → this is your band size (round to 80, 85, 90, etc.).
  2. Measure across the fullest part of your bust.
  3. Calculate the difference (bust – underbust)
  4. See the table above for your size or take a look at the size table page.

Tip: measure when your breasts are full (not right after feeding or pumping)
