When should you buy a nursing bra?

I am often asked: When is the right time to buy a nursing bra?
Around weeks 30–32 of pregnancy is ideal. By then, most of the bodily changes have taken place, and you are almost at your final size. Do not buy one too early - your bust and band size can increase quickly during the first few months. Make sure the bra fits comfortably on the loosest hook setting. After giving birth, you can fasten it tighter as your rib cage returns to its original size.

How does your cup size change during pregnancy and the breastfeeding period?

Your bra size can change considerably:

  • Underbust measurement (band size): increases by an average of 5–10 cm.
  • Bust measurement (cup size): increases by 6–12 cm (usually 1–2 cup sizes).
  • After giving birth: as your breasts fill with milk, your bust measurement may temporarily increase by another 2–4 cm.

Overall, your bra size can fluctuate by 10–15 cm between the beginning of pregnancy and the breastfeeding period.

How do you determine your nursing bra size?

  1. Measure around your underbust → this is your underbust measurement (round to 75, 80, 85, 90, etc.).
  2. Measure around the fullest part of your breasts (usually across your nipples).
  3. Calculate the difference (bust measurement (A) – underbust measurement (B)). Then check the table for your size.

Tip: measure when your breasts are full (not immediately after breastfeeding or pumping)
